(In the interest of both avoiding a cheap shot, and us being labeled as “Scrooge-ish” this Holiday season, the title of our second favorite Smokey Robinson tune containing the word “tears” has been chosen for this post.)
After Speaker of the House to Be John Boehner’s weepy performance on 60 Minutes last Sunday, the burning national question is now, “Is it OK for a grown man to cry?” (We Americans have become experts at finding anything to do, so to avoid dealing with difficult issues – much like a 5th Grader when it’s time to do homework.) It is the 21st Century so we should be more understanding, but these tearful Boehner moments have become a regular occurrence of late.
Many great men of history were known to weep openly when overcome with emotion in monumental moments – for instance Winston Churchill could be a big cry-baby and Lincoln and Washington were caught several times shedding a few tears. That being said, one can’t help but notice that the topic that opens up Boehner’s waterworks is …..John Boehner - and it appears that at least Mrs. Boehner is getting tired of these outbursts. Personally we believe any behavior that elicits direct comparisons with Jerry Lewis – let alone being named in the same sentence with him – is never a good thing.
