Actor, producer and musician Walter Bruce Willis was born on March 19th, 1955 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. With his father’s discharge from military in 1957 the Willis clan moved back to Penns Grove, New Jersey.
After graduating from high school Willis worked as a security guard at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant and did a brief stint as a private investigator before enrolling in the drama program at Montclair State University. Moving to California he auditioned for the role of David Addison – along with 3000 other actors – and got the part in the TV show Moonlighting, (1985-89).
Since then he’s never looked back, amassing a large eclectic filmography ranging from the star of the Die Hard series, supporting roles in Pulp Fiction and Nobody’s Fool as well as Sci-fi movies such as 12 Monkeys and The Fifth Element. One of my Willis favorites is the little known Last Man Standing – with Christopher Walken – a remake of Kurosawa classic Yojimbo. Willis has also proved to be a very funny entertaining guest on Letterman and The Daily Show.
A hybrid of Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and Clint Eastwood and with his bald pate and personalized smirk, Willis has made it all work in his own way and is one of our favorites.
